MDI boys tie EHS 1-1



BAR HARBOR — After a scoreless first half, John Bapst Academy of Bangor topped the Mount Desert Island High School varsity boys’ soccer team 2-1 on Monday.

Both teams played hard in the first 60 minutes, but all of the action came in the final 20 minutes of the game.
With 19:34 remaining, the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead on a goal off a corner by Tanner Ackley.
The Trojans tied the score just over eight minutes later with a goal by senior Joe Grubb on a through ball from Adam Bygdeson. With 6:22 left in the game, Paul Branch put John Bapst ahead to give them the win.

MDI vs. EHS

The Ellsworth and Mount Desert Island boys’ soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie Thursday night at Ellsworth High School.

MDI (2-4-2) opened the scoring less than a minute into the game when Joe Grubb got a foot to a loose ball inside the penalty area and struck it past Ellsworth goalkeeper Peyton Cole and into the bottom left corner. The Trojans would go into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Ellsworth (4-2-1) tied the game with 36 minutes, 33 seconds left in the second half when Jack Lee headed the ball over the MDI goalkeeper’s head. Lee had another opportunity to score with 8:01 left in the game but missed a header from a difficult angle. Both overtime periods ended without any real scoring chances for either team.

Ellsworth’s next game will be on the road Monday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m. against the Old Town Coyotes (3-3). MDI’s next game will be at home that same day at 6 p.m. against the John Bapst Crusaders (6-0).
