BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team has enjoyed plenty of successful seasons in recent years. In 2018-19, the Trojans delivered one of their strongest campaigns yet.
MDI capped off a strong campaign last month with a Scott Jellison Memorial Tournament title at Sumner Memorial High School and Mountain View School in Sullivan. The Trojans ended the season with a 17-4 record overall.
After finishing the regular season 14-4, MDI entered the Scott Jellison Memorial Tournament as one of eight teams vying for the title. After starting off the tournament with a win over Washington Academy, the Trojans topped Orono to advance to the championship game.
The title game pitted MDI against Narraguagus, which had beaten Sumner and Ellsworth to reach the final. Although the Knights played the Trojans close, MDI prevailed 34-32 to conclude its season with the tournament title.
MDI’s 17 wins marked a nine-win improvement from last year’s team, which went 8-7. The team’s performance continued a strong stretch of results in recent years for the Trojans, who went 12-4 in 2016-17, 14-5 in 2015-16 and 16-2 in 2014-15.
Members of this year’s MDI JV girls’ team were Rena LeClair, Bailey Goodell, Emily Carter, Abbie Farley, Maddy Ford, Lily Philbrook, Hannah Joy, Lexi Rich, Olivia Joy, Grace Witham and Elena Alderman. May Dow was the team’s head coach with Bryan Maurais serving as assistant coach.
