SACO — Recent Mount Desert Island High School graduates Gilbert Isaacs and Elijah Joyce will get to wear their Trojan helmets one last time Saturday when they compete in this year’s Shrine Lobster Bowl at Thornton Academy.
The duo will compete as part of the Eastern Maine team in the event, which features the top senior football players from each program across the state. Saturday will mark the second in a row that MDI has featured multiple players in the Lobster Bowl after Croix Albee, Micah Hallett and Colby Lee represented the Trojans last season.
Joyce set the Big 11 Conference ablaze last season as he rushed for a conference-best 1,560 yards and 19 touchdowns in MDI’s eight games. Isaacs was named Big 11 Co-Lineman of the Year after dominating in the trenches on both offense and defense.
Gates at Thornton Academy’s Hill Stadium will open to the public at 1 p.m. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
