Home Run for Carroll in Foxcroft loss

BAR HARBOR – Senior Molly Carroll kept the Mount Desert Island High School varsity softball team alive with a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth at home against Foxcroft Academy Saturday, tying up the game 10-10. It would stretch into 11 innings before the Ponies pulled out three more runs to win 13-10. Haley Littlefield and Aubrie Boyce pitched for the Trojans in the game, the first of a double header.

The loss puts the Lady Trojans 1-2 for the season.

Foxcroft 8 – MDI 7

Foxcroft came away with an 8-7 win in the second game. MDI led 4-1 after two innings with runs by Darcy Kanu and Carroll in the first, and a two-run single from Julianna Cleaves in the second to bring in Riley Mooers and Cassidy Parady. The game was tied 7-7 in the fifth after three scoreless innings. Freshman Madison Thornton took over from Littlefield on the mound in the fifth and allowed three hits in five innings. One of those batted in a run for Foxcroft in the top of the ninth, and the Ponies successfully defended the 8-7 lead for the win.

“I think we played pretty well. The pitchers did a good job being consistent,” Coach Bruce Walls said. “We just made too many mistakes. We had some early strikeouts and had to battle back from 6-0. All day long, we were just chasing them.”

MDI 20 – GSA 3

The season began last week at George Stevens, where the Lady Trojans cruised to a 20-3 win. Littlefield pitched the complete game (five defensive innings), throwing 65 strikes and 33 balls.

The game was tied 2-2 after one inning. Carroll batted in Cleaves and Kanu with a two-run double. The second inning was scoreless, and MDI had 18 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks in the third. GSA would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth before the game ended.

The Trojans are set to meet Ellsworth Thursday and host the Presque Isle Wildcats for a double header Saturday.
