BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity girls’ basketball team secured wins over Foxcroft and Oceanside last week to secure a 3-0 start to the season.

Last Wednesday, the Trojans secured a win in a challenging road environment with a 52-36 triumph over Foxcroft. Julia Watras scored 21 points for MDI, which received 11 from Maddy Candage and seven from Alexis Clarito.

MDI continued its winning ways Saturday with a 51-31 victory over Oceanside in Rockland. Candage scored 21 points to lead the way for the Trojans, and Watras added 17 as the visitors cruised to another win.

MDI was scheduled to face Washington Academy on Monday in East Machias, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The Trojans were set to face the Raiders (0-3) at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20, before hosting John Bapst at 7 p.m. Dec. 21.

In other girls’ basketball news, Watras was named the Big East Conference Girls’ Player of the Week on Tuesday for her early-season efforts. The senior is currently the team’s leading scorer with 53 points in the Trojans’ first three games.
