BAR HARBOR — The varsity softball team of Mount Desert Island High School fell 12-0 to Hermon High School at home on Thursday, May 12, and dropped to 0-10 on the season.
Lindsey McEachern pitched the complete seven-inning game for the Trojans and struck out six.
“Lindsey [McEachern] pitched a pretty good game for us,” head Coach Jamey Lewis said. “We had a few errors in the field, and that didn’t help us out. That was our downfall. We’re swinging a bat a lot better than we were a few games ago. That’s the positive in it.”
The Trojan varsity team is scheduled to get on the road to play against Old Town on Thursday, May 19.
When MDI previously faced the Coyotes, they lost 13-3. According to Lewis, “the score did not represent the game.” The Trojan’s fought hard, but gave up 14 hits combined in the first and seventh innings.
“If we could have taken the first and seventh inning out of the game, we would have had a heck of a game,” she said. “Our mindset is to do what we did in those five innings. … We just have to hit the ball and field the ball, just our fundamentals. We have to make sure that our minds in it the whole time and keep swinging the bat as we have and try to get a win.”
MDI team will travel to Aroostook County for a double-header against Caribou High School on Saturday, May 21, at noon.
