BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity softball team lost 2-1 to Ellsworth at home on May 31, bringing its hard-fought season to an end.
MDI’s Ally Bender, Maddie Thornton, Avalon Kerley and Natasha Olearcek each got base hits. Kerley got to first after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first inning. She proceeded to steal three bases, scoring the Trojan’s only run.
Lindsey McEachern pitched a complete game, striking out five Ellsworth players, walking one and hitting one with a pitch.
“I think they played well today,” Coach Jamey Lewis said. “I’m really proud of them, from the beginning of the season to the end of the season, it’s a completely different team.
“We’ll miss the seniors,” she added.
On the Ellsworth side, Abby Lynch had two RBIs in the top of the sixth after hitting a single. Breann Cummings hit a double, while Leah Stevens and Hannah Sargent batted singles.
Kate Whitney pitched for the Eagles, striking out six of the Trojans, walking one and hitting one.
MDI 3 – John Bapst 1
The Trojans’ softball team beat John Bapst on their home turf 3-1 Saturday, bringing their season record to 2 and 0 before the final game of the season.
Kerley, Aubrey Boyce, Cassidy Parady, Alaina Duley, and Olearcek all hit singles, with Duley getting an RBI.
McEachern pitched eight strikeouts and gave up one walk and six hits for a complete game.
John Bapst had six hits, with Gina Cambria, Madi Higgins, Emilee Soucie, Abby Bowman and Caitlin Abbott hitting singles and pitcher Kayla Massey hitting a double.
Massey pitched a complete game, striking out 13 of the Trojans’ players, walking four and hitting four.
