Dozens participate in Eden Track Fest

BAR HARBOR — The eighth annual Eden Track Festival was held Aug. 10 at the Mount Desert Island High School track.

Despite a misty and overcast evening, about 35 runners from ages 9 to 57 raced in four events.

“This is a family-oriented event, and it’s great that we can get all these families out here after work,” said Eden Athletics President Christa Brey.

Andrew Kephart, 31, clinched both the 1 and 2-mile races with times of 5 minutes, 31 seconds and 11 minutes, 25 seconds, respectively. The 2-mile race counted towards the Eden Athletics-Smile Design of Ellsworth Point Series.

Thirteen-year-old Cody Parker finished second in the mile race with a time of 6:35. Andy Pereira, 48, came in second in the 2-mile race with a time of 11:32.

Sixteen-year-old Stanley Grierson won the 400-meter with a time of 1:05.2, followed closely by 15-year-old Evan Merchant with a time of 1:05.88.

Three teams raced in a fun 4×400-meter relay. Team Pizza, comprised of Brey, Sam Burrill, Laura Anderson and Andrew Kephart with a time of 5:47.57.

Winners were presented with awards and all runners were treated to cupcakes made by Maegan Haney.
