Cyclists ride for Parkinson’s

More than 1,000 cyclists participated in the ninth annual New England Parkinson’s Ride in Old Orchard Beach Sept. 10. Julie Veilleux of Bar Harbor and her family led a team of 22 cyclists named “ParkinSONS and Daughters of Bill Giarusso” in honor of her late father Bill Giarusso, who succumbed to the disease in July. Joining Veilleux were her husband, Greg, and son, Andrew, as well as her siblings and extended family from around the country. The team raised more than $70,000 for Parkinson’s research for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The event altogether raised $590,000 for the cause.
