Crusaders crumble under MDI softball

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School varsity softball team improved to 2-1 this season after defeating John Bapst Memorial High School 6-5 at home last Friday.

Lindsey McEachern scored two runs for MDI, while Hannah Chamberlain, Madison Thornton, Lily Cook and Ruby Brown each scored one run.

McEachern, Thornton, Cook and Madison Neale all stole bases.

McEachern pitched for seven innings. She allowed five hits, two earned runs and two walks. She made 11 strikeouts while committing two errors.

MDI had an impressive double play in the fourth inning after John Bapst’s Morgan Leighton hit a ball to Thornton at short stop. She looked back to the runner on second and threw to Chamberlain at first for the putout.

Chamberlain then threw to Alaina Duley at third to turn the double play.

For John Bapst, Emilee Soucie had one single and one double, while Hallie Rockress had two singles and Gabrielle Gonzales had a single.

Pitcher Kayla Massey threw for all seven innings, allowing four hits, six runs, four walks and 10 strikeouts.

The Trojans are set to host Hermon High School on Thursday, May 4, at 4:30 p.m. and will host Foxcroft Academy on Saturday, May 6, at noon.
