Coastal Advances to final in District 1 11-12 baseball

BLUE HILL — Coastal defeated Calais 14-2 in a semifinals matchup of the District 1 Little League All-Star baseball tournament for ages 11-12 on Sunday.

Coastal’s Memphis Parker logged nine strikeouts in three and a half innings. Parker Allen recorded a double, a single and three RBIs. Caden Mattson chipped in with two singles and an RBI, and Tobey Snow added a single and two RBIs.

Coastal 14, Acadian 11

Five runs in the top of the sixth inning lifted Coastal of Blue Hill to a 14-11 win over Acadian of Mount Desert Island on June 28 in Bar Harbor.

A three-run single by Parker Allen, a run-scoring single by Caden Mattson and an RBI triple by Vanessa Sherwood were highlights of the rally.

Tobey Snow also had a three-run home run and a double for Coastal, while Mattson finished with three singles and three RBI and Memphis Parker had three singles and drove in a run.

For Acadian, Erik Merchant had a three-run homer, a two-run double and two singles; Nick Corson had a two-run single; and Logan Beckwith had a run-scoring double.

Bucksport 18, Machias 7

With the score knotted at 6-6 after six innings, Bucksport exploded for 12 runs in the top of the seventh and downed Machias 18-7 on June 28 in Machias.

Christian Chase-Hurd had a triple and a single for Bucksport in the win.

Coastal 5, Bucksport 2

Coastal notched its second win and advanced to semifinal play on Tuesday in Blue Hill with a 5-2 victory over Bucksport.

Austin Snow struck out eight batters in five innings for Coastal, and Caden Mattson struck out the final two Bucksport batters to preserve the win.

Tobey Snow doubled and drove in two runs. Mattson and Marcus Candage each had a pair of singles for Coastal.

Dan Couse had a solo homerun for Bucksport.

Calais 3, Ellsworth 2

A superb pitching performance by right-hander Jackson Curtis was not enough for Ellsworth as Calais rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a 3-2 win at Ellsworth’s Demeyer Field on Tuesday.

Curtis held Calais hitless and struck out 10 of 13 batters before leaving the mound with two outs in the fourth inning after reaching his maximum pitch count.

Ellsworth took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tanner Ashley walked and later scored on a single by Sam Keblinsky.

A walk to Parker Littlefield and a single by Curtis provided the second Ellsworth run in the third inning.

Righthander John Socobasin also was outstanding on the mound for Calais, striking out 10 batters and allowing just two hits in his four innings.

In the sixth inning comeback by Calais, Alex Newsome led off with a single off Ashley, who took the mound in relief of Curtis.

Blake Collins followed with a double, scoring Newsome, and Collins scored one out later in a triple by Socobasin.

Socobasin raced home with the game-ending winning run, beating the throw to the plate on a bouncer to shortstop.

Acadian 20, Machias 2

Playing in the losers’ bracket on Tuesday, Acadian romped to a 20-2 win over Machias.

For Acadian, Kyle Nicholson had a home run, two doubles and a single and drove in two runs. Nick Corson contributed a homerun, a double and a single, and Sam Mitchell had a triple and a double.

Bucksport 2, Moosabec 1

All three Bucksport hits came in the bottom of the seventh inning for the win on Thursday at Bucksport. Cameron Grindle led off with a single and then scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Christian Chase-Hurd.

Roger Foss contributed a single, and pinch runner Hunter Klenowski scored the winning run on an infield hit by Robichaud.

Acadian 10, Ellsworth 8

On Thursday at Demeyer Field in Ellsworth, Acadian scored six runs in the fourth inning, with Erik Merchant notching a three-run homer.

Merchant also hit a two-run homerun in the third inning and finished with five RBIs. Brett Duley also chipped in with a solo homer. Nick Duley contributed a double, two singles and two RBIs. Kyle Nicholson added a single and an RBI.

For Ellsworth, Austin Harris drove in three runs on two hits. Tanner Ashland added a single, a double and an RBI. Jackson Curtis and Sam Kablinsky each contributed a double, with Curtis driving in two runs and Kablinsky driving in one. Alex Foster added a hit and an RBI.

Acadian 15, Bucksport 14

On Sunday at Bucksport, Acadian scored six runs in the top of the sixth, then held on for the win after Bucksport’s nine-run rally in the bottom of the inning.

For Acadian, Cam Abbott notched two hits, drove in two runs and scored three runs. Erik Merchant chipped in with three hits and two runs. Brett Duley contributed two hits and two RBIs. Colyn Rich got two hits and two runs.

For Bucksport, Hunter Robichaud led the team with four RBIs and three runs with an inside-the-park home run, two singles and a double. Christian Chase-Hurd chipped in a home run, a double and two runs. Cameron Grindle added three hits and two RBIs.
