BAR HARBOR — The Annual Mount Desert Island YMCA Sharks Aquathon, a pledge event to raise money for the operation of the swim team, is set for Sunday, Feb. 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Aquathon is for Sharks team members, parents and any community members who would like to participate. Each swimmer to raise at least $125 receives an “I Survived Shark Infested Waters” T-shirt. Donations can be for either a set amount or a pledge per lap. Each swimmer has 90 minutes to complete their laps, up to a 200-lap maximum. Sharks team members have each been given a realistic goal by the coaching staff.
This season, with the help of some private donors, the YMCA purchased two timing cords, tops for the blocks, lane line reels and a new timing system.
