Acadia Fire soccer second in the state

FREEPORT — Acadia Fire Football Club’s under 12 team is No. 2 in the state after playing in the Fall Classic League Champions Cup against Brunswick Saturday in Freeport.

AFFC first topped Scarborough in the semifinal round 4-2 earlier in the day.

“It was a hard fought game against the team that knocked out the only team that had beaten us in the regular season,” said Keri Hayes, whose son, Liam Hollis, plays on the team.

Evan Donnell scored the go ahead goal midway through the second half after the boys rallied from a 2-1 deficit.

After its semifinal win, the AFFC team faced Brunswick in the finals.

Despite the close match, the boys were unable to overcome Brunswick’s offense, and AFFC lost 2-4.

“The U12 boys team impressed spectators with their high level of skill and creative attacking playing style,” said Head Coach Michael Curless.

Monte Weaver, Riley Donahue, Liam Hollis, Cole Watson, Walker St. Germain, Cedar Ellis, Henry Lester, Trayan Nelson, Cyrus Blake, Evan Donnell and Westy Granholm all fought hard throughout the season.

The AFFC’s under 12 team finished 5-1 in the Fall Classic League and scored the most goals out of any team in the state during league play.
