Wrong side

To the Editor:

Rep. Bruce Poliquin is morally on the wrong side of many of the most important issues of our time. From access to affordable health care to support for the ultrarich to not supporting measures to combat climate disaster, he is not representing the values of 2nd District Mainers.

Is he capable of change? Apparently not, as he thinks he knows better than the people he represents, the majority of whom agree that income shouldn’t determine our ability to obtain medical care. We voted to expand Medicaid, and he continues to support repeal of the Affordable Care Act and cuts to Medicaid.

Has he worked to close the loopholes that the wealthy use to avoid paying their fair share of taxes? No. Instead he’s recently stated his support for the House tax bill that will cause the loss of deductions and tax credits for the rest of us to pay for tax cuts for millionaires.

How many times have we heard how he’s a fiscal conservative concerned about the national debt? His support of the tax plan is expected to add $1.5 trillion to the national debt.

He is as fact-disabled as the president he supports. Practically everything he says to support his stance on issues fails any test of being a balanced, truthful statement. As long as we continue to accept this behavior, politicians will lie to us.

Poliquin never represented mainline Republican values. Why do people still vote for him? He represents himself and those megarich donors who hope to keep him in office and supporting their agenda. What will the good Mainers of the 2nd District decide to do with him?
