To the Editor:
Regarding the Islander‘s front page article on Thursday, May 18, “Acadia Advisory Board Suspended,” I assumed that this longstanding connection between the park and the citizens of surrounding towns was suspended by the Trump administration as a budget cutting measure. Such measures always are disturbing when they fall upon our particular area of interest and concern, but as a whole, they have a worthy aim.
Therefore I was quite surprised when checking into the matter to find that these appointed board members serve without compensation as a link between the park and the surrounding communities. Does anyone out there have an idea about the motivation behind this edict on the part of the administration?
