To the Editor:
This is an open letter to Sen. Susan Collins.
As a registered voter in the state of Maine, I am writing to you with a very simple thought.
As a moral human being, you must oppose nominations to the Cabinet of the Trump administration anyone who opposes the basic human rights of any sector of the American population.
You must oppose every Cabinet nominee who supports racism, misogyny, inequality, religious intolerance, xenophobia, and any who believes that climate change is a hoax and that environmental regulations are a hindrance to business and the economy.
We, the residents of Maine, consider you to be a morally responsible individual, and therefore, you must oppose these nominations.
As the elected senator from Maine, charged with the responsibility to represent all the people of Maine, you are expected to oppose Trump’s nominations using the same reasoning you employed to oppose Trump’s endorsement by the Republican National Committee.
Do not simply tow the line as a loyal, unthinking Republican based upon the expectations of the Republican Party leadership. You rightly stood up against that so-called leadership when you refused to support the nomination of candidate Trump.
Stand up for your integrity and your moral principles. Oppose nominations of people who embrace philosophies that are immoral and un-American.
