To the Editor:
Letter writer Gary Conrad’s comments of the deleterious effects of the proposed half-mile pier for cruise ships are right on the money.
In addition, consider the following scenario: A hot summer day, two enormous cruise ships at the pier. All living spaces on these two ships are air conditioned, and the power comes from running their diesel engines, producing a visible and smell-able exhaust.
Further, a brief glance at a chart of the bay tells us that a half-mile pier constructed at right angles to the shore will extend far enough to overlap the tip of Bar Island. This is a huge pier!
Is this what we want for our town?
