To the Editor:
On behalf of the Acadia Family Center Board of Directors, I’m writing to thank you for your exceptionally well informed and timely editorial on the opioid crisis in Maine (Where do we go from here, Dec. 9, 2021), a crisis that is no less challenging right here in our Mount Desert Island community.
We at Acadia Family Center intend to reopen our clinic when we can satisfy ourselves that we have a viable business plan and that we can find qualified clinicians and clinical supervision. As we all know, this is a challenge nationally as well as in Down East Maine.
We are committed to maintaining our character as a community organization of over 40 years standing. Our important service has been sustained over that period through the generosity of many individual, business and institutional supporters. We and the countless patients we have served are most grateful to them.
Since announcing the temporary (we hope) closing of our clinical services last November, we have been happily surprised by the many people and organizations that have stepped forward, offering assistance of one sort or another. We are grateful for this support and will do our best to meet the expectations of so many in our community.
