Successful holiday

To the Editor:

On behalf of Woodlawn staff, trustees and volunteers, I offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Christmas at Woodlawn such a huge success. This yearly effort is made possible through the support of many community partners and volunteers.

Thanks to the 2014 decorating teams, the Black House took on a magical look based on the theme, The Books of Christmas. The Bar Harbor, Bucksport and Ellsworth Garden Clubs, NewLand Nursery & Florist, Ellsworth Elementary Middle School second graders and teachers, and two very special Woodlawn volunteers, Liliane Kell and Trish Worthen did a great job making the rooms so festive. Thank you to Union River Book & Toy Co. who assisted us in getting just the right versions of the books reflected in the room displays to have in our reading nook at the base of the spiral staircase.

A hearty thank you also to the Eastern Maine Model Railroad Club for creating the Holiday Train in our Sleigh Barn, a brand new offering for us this year. In addition to setting up the display, their knowledgeable volunteers were on hand each weekend to answer visitor questions. Their huge time commitment was appreciated by all. Children were in awe, and adults shared their memories while sipping hot cocoa and enjoying cookies, compliments of The Craft Barn in Ellsworth.

We greatly appreciated the efforts of our culinary partner, Chipper’s Restaurant, for catering our holiday open house, business parties, high teas and traditional feast, all to rave reviews. Through this partnership, we were able to share these unique Woodlawn experiences with more guests than in year’s past.

Most importantly, we thank the hundreds of visitors who attended all the festivities and enjoyed the house tours. It was your enthusiasm and response that made it all worthwhile.

While the Black House is now closed for winter, the grounds and public park remain open from dawn to dusk. We look forward to seeing you on your winter visits. Happy New Year!
