Point of order

To the Editor:

This is in response to a letter written by Don Murphy that appeared in the Mount Desert Islander on May 14.

In his letter, Murphy states that “it (The land use ordinance repeal and replacement) would allow construction of electric power substations in almost any residential area in Bar Harbor, including densely populated family neighborhoods.”

The LUO revision does not increase or decrease the number of zones that allow for utility installations. This clarification has been made at numerous open public hearings.

I do not recall hearing from Murphy at any of the meetings conducted by either the Planning Board or Town Council. Had he attended any of these meetings, his concerns would have been addressed.
