To the Editor:
Last Sunday, I had the honor of being elected the new chair of the Maine Democratic Party. I am both humbled and excited by the opportunity to lead our party into the next chapter.
I know I have some big shoes to fill. Chairman Ben Grant did a great job of creating a more unified, professional and positive operation. I plan to carry his work forward.
It’s no secret that our party has much to reflect upon from Election Day.
Over the next few weeks, our team will continue to pore over the numbers and analyze the results. We will find new ways to promote the good work of our party and candidates and to broaden our base across the state. The Democratic Party has always stood for opportunity and hope.
We will continue that proud tradition.
I can tell you there are already some exciting things in the works. Democrats chose leaders for the 127th legislative session who will continue to stand up for working families and seniors.
U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree is back in Congress already fighting for the environment and affordable health care. And progressive groups are continuing the call to raise the minimum wage in Maine.
We hope that you will stand with us as we get to work. My door is always open, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback. In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest updates.
Your support, hard work and dedication are the foundation of all that we do. And our shared progressive values will carry us forward as we chart a new course.
Phil Bartlett, Chair
Maine Democratic Party
