Moral compass

Letter to the Editor:

Today our struggle is for the very heart and soul of America.

Never before have we experienced the open aggression against America’s core beliefs, traditional morality, common sense economics and limited constitutional government.

We are living in a pivotal time in America.

I remember shortly after WWII that there was a major shift to restore us to our founding principles because of the catastrophic life and death events we were forced to endure. Churches were filled, and America’s attitude was simple humility and praise for what God had done for us.

But soon thereafter, because of our pride and careless attitude, we soon succumbed to our old ways of greed, selfishness and pride, which brought about a slow slide away from our God and His Ways.

Into the 50s and 60s, we soon allowed the enemy of our souls to remove those foundations that insured stability and our godly character.

First, through the High Court of the Land came the attack on God’s Holy Scripture and the Ten Commandments being taught in our school system, and the outlawing of prayer and then finally the Supreme Court of the United States voting to sanction their approval of murdering the unborn.

And now we ask ourselves, “How did we get here?”

II Timothy 4:3 says, “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

Folks, the problem in America today, is a moral problem! It is very apparent that we have deliberately rejected the moral compass that has prospered us,

and out of this pride we have turned back to our own sinful ways.

Rev. James A. Garfield, our 20th President of these United States said in part, “The people are responsible for the character of their Congress.

If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption.”

Edmund Burke, an Irish Statesmen and member of Parliament said,

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

This is a call to active citizenship to all of us who call ourselves Americans.

A call that requires us to put aside apathy and to commit ourselves to fight for our God-given liberties.

Less than 60 percent of eligible Christians actually vote or are even registered to vote.

If 75 percent of Christian Congregations across America get mobilized to vote, we can turn the tide. How many Christian voters does it take to change America’s direction back to godliness?

II Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

To remove Christian principles from politics is to allow only the ungodly to rule.

Will you get registered and make sure to vote?

America’s future is dependent on you!
