Library the winner

To the Editor:

At the Oscars on Feb. 28, the big winner was the Jesup Memorial Library, and the real stars that night were the community members who came out to support the Jesup at the annual Oscar night fundraiser at Reel Pizza Cinerama.

Our amazing volunteers spent hours decorating, cleaning, hanging posters, pouring champagne and much more. Thank you to Kathy Moult-Applewhite, Suzie Maristany, Marie Fanore, Jill Kubis, Donna Hutton, Barbara MacLeod, Karen Farley, Ann Bohrer, Jan MacIntyre, Patti Lavoie, Joyce Mahoney, Anne Molvai, Jenn Brandt, Christine Harding, David Dutton, Bronwen Kaldro, Ailish Fahey, Anna Farrell, Barbara Weymouth, Noreen Hogan, Liz Cutler, John O’Brien and Mark Schoon along with Jesup board members Tricia Blythe and Cherie Galyean. A special thank you to Cas Dowden of Cas Ole Catering, who made sure that everyone was well fed.

Thanks, too, to the businesses and individuals who donated food.

The YWCA of MDI lent us tables, and Doug McMinimy donated his services as a photographer extraordinaire and our paparazzo for the night. He captured the wonderful costumes and great evening wear and all the fun that night.

Masters of ceremony Jen Shepard, Amy Roeder and Jason Preble from ImprovAcadia kept everyone entertained during the commercial breaks and the preshow with their witty commentary. And finally, the Jesup would like to thank Reel Pizza, Lisa Burton and Chris Vincenty for their steadfast support.

The Jesup is a private nonprofit that serves as the public library and community center for Bar Harbor. We receive just 4.6 percent of our funding from the town of Bar Harbor, and another 43.8 percent comes from our endowment. Events like this Oscar night fundraiser fill in the gap.

Finally, thanks to all those who bought tickets and attended the event to support us. More than 100 people were there, and all proceeds went directly to the Jesup.

Jesup Memorial Library Director
