To the Editor:

Nurses are the caretakers of a community. They dedicate their lives to the health of their neighbors.

Staffing a hospital with traveling nurses who have no stake in the overall well-being of a community is expensive; and not just financially.

When a hospital tries to cut costs by refusing to pay nurses their agreed-upon wages, they disrespect skilled professionals and put the entire community at risk.

Effective healthcare relies on the retention of experienced nurses. Mount Desert Island Hospital nurses are invested in their community. MDI Hospital should invest in its nurses.
