To the Editor:

I was disappointed to see the subhead on last week’s article about school superintendent search finalists.

By framing the article the way it did, the paper cast aspersions on the hard work of the search committee.

They spent countless hours at the end of long workdays reading all of the applications, discussing various candidates, interviewing and vetting the final choices. That subhead insinuates that they did not do a good job. The paper owes them an apology.

It also owes both candidates apologies as well. Because you focused most of your article on the firing of Jose Maldonado-Rivera, you hardly gave Michael Hammer the time of day.

Finally, the tone is hardly the way to introduce Maldonado-Rivera to our island. At the very least, the paper could have written a separate article. Shame on you.
