Fond memory

To the Editor:

I enjoyed reading the “Fund Honors William Proctor” article in the June 14 edition of the Islander.

In 1939, Dick Foster and I were in the park working on projects for Boy Scout merit badges. We met Mr. Proctor who was net catching butterflies (and releasing them).

We were enormously grateful when he showed his generosity by donating $2,000 to Boy Scout Troop 89 to make the scout transport vehicle travel worthy for our scout trip to the New York World’s Fair.
