Farewell to a craftsman

To the Editor:

The Mount Desert Island community suffered a tragic loss recently with the untimely passing of David Kay Gray. Dave was a gifted athlete, a loyal friend, a hard worker and a loving and passionate family man.

As a coach and mentor, David touched the lives of many young athletes and was able to infuse a blend of sportsmanship, compassion and fierce competitiveness into their growth and maturation. His dedication to our community earned him the respect and admiration of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

If life’s journey is truly about creating oneself, then David was a craftsman. He carried himself with poise, shaped his life with grace and exuded generosity in all of his endeavors.

It has been said that with reflection comes knowledge. As we gather and contemplate the lessons offered here, they may be best employed for introspection. David Gray was a devoted family man and an amazing person. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
