End of an era

To the Editor:

I would like to thank the Mount Desert Island High School for the tribute I received on Wednesday, June 10.

I was surprised by the honor and the kind remarks of Principal Matt Haney and Assistant Athletic Director Matt Umphrey.

Working at the MDI High School for the past 25 years has been a wonderful experience. I have seen thousands of young boys and girls mature into adulthood. It has been a joy to see the faces of these students as they came through the cafeteria daily to receive their noon meals.

I also would like to thank the people I have worked with over this period of time. Without them, the food service program would not have been viable. It has been a pleasure working with you, and I will miss you.

During these past years, I have seen numerous sporting events and extra-curricular activities. Watching the youth of our community perform has been a real gratifying experience. Feeding many visiting teams from other parts of the state always has been a pleasure. Thank you to Athletic Director Bunky Dow for the support and kindnesses I have received.

And lastly, I would like to thank the greater MDI community, Superintendent Howard Colter and his staff, Haney and administrators, the teachers, secretaries, custodial staff and ed techs for all that they have done for me.

I have appreciated your support and assistance. Thank you for all that you have done for me and the youth of the community.
