To the Editor:

I feel compelled to write and express my disappointment in the unnecessarily provocative headline about Kelly Sanborn’s medical leave on the front page of this week’s paper. It is disturbing to see such a respected educator so publicly humiliated. From the tone of the article, one might speculate there was some malfeasance. Since when has taking sick leave warranted front page coverage?

I understand the need to explain a shift in personnel and a budget shortfall. I also appreciate the decision the school board made regarding prior requests from her for paid sabbatical leave. I wish, however, the manager, and her incredible contributions and importance to our school system, had not been so devalued and unsupported.

I am saddened that someone who is in need of sick leave and is the most compassionate and hard working of educators, should be so publicly treated.
