To the Editor:
As a trustee of the Bass Harbor Memorial Library, I have some concern about the Islander’s recent article regarding the relationship between the Bass Harbor Memorial Library and Tremont School.
Last year, we were asked to provide library classes for the K-4 students. We were able to do this, and it worked well.
This year, it turned out not to be as good a fit. We increased the hours we are open at our library, and it became more difficult to cover the school as well.
As a representative of the library, I met with Principal Pam Bush, and we agreed that we would end the library’s responsibility for teaching K-4 classes. The Bass Harbor Memorial Library and Tremont School continue to have a good relationship, and we continue to collaborate with each other in a variety of ways.
