To the Editor:
I just returned from a week visiting with family on the Herrick and Seal Cove roads. By now, residents must be tired of out-of-staters, torn up roads and long lines.
I have been told of horror stories about things the flaggers have to put up with from both residents and visitors. They are spat on, garbage has been thrown at them, and vehicles nearly have run over them. I was encouraged to write about my experience this week with a woman driving a black truck coming from town with the window rolled down, making an obscene gesture and hollering “go home!”
That is not quite like the Southwest Harbor I experienced growing up there. Not all tourists and not all natives are rude and crude. A few spoil it for many.
