Letter to the Editor: Write-in candidate for District 3

To the Editor:

Thank you for your report regarding the public opinion submitted by the Democratic candidate for Hancock County Commission to represent District 3 (Franklin, Hancock, Lamoine, Trenton, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Tremont, Southwest Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Swan’s Island and Frenchboro). I am writing to let your readers know that I am declaring as a write-in candidate for this seat.

My name will not appear on the ballot, but voters in the district can and should write it in. I have lived in Bar Harbor since 1997, raised two children here and served on town and school committees. Like many Mainers, I have more than one job: I am a consulting biologist, teach part-time at College of the Atlantic and work for Material Research, an MDI-based business.

The towns on our island, and those on the nearby mainland, are interdependent, and what happens in one affects them all. If the voters in District 3 elect me to the Hancock County Commission, I will prioritize the needs of these towns and make decisions for the benefit of all. I have worked with people from many walks of life, from scientists to woods workers, fishermen and heavy equipment operators, and when I sit down at the table with any of them, my goal is to accomplish something together.

I won’t always agree with everyone, but I will be respectful, firm and always seek the best solution for all concerned. I think that is the kind of leadership we need on the Hancock County Commission, and I hope you’ll agree and write me in on November 3.
