To the Editor:
When anyone asks me what is my favorite time to visit Maine, I always reply, “in the autumn.” When time permits, I give them my reasons for my choice:
1. Days are cooler, nights even more so, so it is time to enjoy a fire in the wood stove, 2. Frost comes and mosquitoes die, 3. Tourists and cruise boats become much less numerous, although due to the pandemic, this has certainly not been a problem this year, 4. The vibrant, warm colors of the foliage on the trees is truly spectacular, even more so when viewed with a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, always nearby, 5. With the absence of three million plus tourists annually, the small mountains of MDI, unburdened of the weight, seem to rise another few feet out of the sea.
