To the Editor:
World War II is often referred to as “the great war.” While there is nothing great about the death and destruction of war, perhaps it was the great sacrifice made by the American people to defeat the enemy. People collected scrap metal for armaments. They accepted rationing of sugar and fuel. They sent their sons and themselves off to battle. Americans together acted individually for a greater good.
Now we face a new enemy: the COVID-19 virus. Again, the American people are asked to make sacrifices, albeit small ones. We are asked to keep safe distance from each other. We are asked to cover our faces in public. Americans together can act for the greater good of us all. Perhaps we need to remind ourselves to “act great again” and perhaps that will be what “makes America great again.”
