To the Editor:
Thank you for reporting on Kaitlyn Metcalf’s “Century One: Acadia,” another wonderful exhibit at Jesup Memorial Library in Bar Harbor. And for highlighting her painting of row boats on Jordan Pond.
I was very interested to learn that, “In the early 1900s, row boat rentals were quite popular on Jordan Pond.” It would be very nice to revive this aspect of Acadia’s history.
I grew up rowing on Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn, N.Y.
On moving to Mount Desert Island, I am dismayed that there seems to be no place to rent a rowboat on the island. Why is this? I have been tempted to leave notes in rowboats, tied up at the Bar Harbor pier, asking for the chance to row.
