To the Editor:
We would like to thank the Town of Mount Desert, and particularly Police Chief Jim Willis and Director of Public Works, Tony Smith, for responding to the issue of drivers speeding through our village of Somesville.
Soon after we went to a town meeting on July 1 to share our worries, we learned that the town authorized the purchase and placement of permanent flashing speed-monitoring signs on each end of Main Street. They were installed last month — a constant reminder to drivers to be aware of speed limits. We can already see the difference as we stand outside our home each morning, waiting for our youngest daughter’s school bus.
This kind of response from local government is exceptional, and we deeply appreciate how promptly and how professionally town officials responded to our and other residents’ concerns.
