Letter to Editor: Race thanks

We at Island Connections would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of those affiliated with the 3rd Annual Running for Rides/Mary Parker Memorial Race, held Saturday, Oct. 13.

The day was cool and overcast for the runners, however the rain held off until the last of the runners crossed the finish line. Several people ran the 5K race while others walked with family, friends, or dogs through roads lined with colorful foliage along a route which included a portion of Acadia National Park.

With community participation, funding from many local businesses and individuals, and support from Mary’s family, the race has been deemed a success for us at Island Connections, whose mission provides transportation to MDI’s seniors and those with physical or mental challenges. It is with great pride and gratitude that we publicly thank everyone whose participation, consideration, and assistance helped make us successful.

A special thank-you to Bar Harbor Savings and Loan, our title sponsor, and to Acadia National Park, Acadia Veterinary Hospital, the Bar Harbor Police Department, Bark Harbor, Cadillac Mountain Sports, Carroll Drug, Dead River, Eden Therapeutic Massage, Hannaford, Pat’s Pizza, Peacock Builders, Ride Scheduler, Bethany Shea, Spruce & Gussy and Window Panes.

Thanks also to all the runners and walkers who participated.

Doreen Willett

Executive Director, Island Connections
