To the Editor:
Three cheers to the roads and maintenance staffs of Acadia National Park who quickly opened the carriage roads, plowed the parking lots and shoveled the walks during our surprise snowstorm last week.
I went our early on Tuesday morning when it was still cold and crisp and had an outstanding ski around Eagle Lake.
While the roads were not groomed, enough people had skied the night before that the tracks were set. The base wasn’t packed, but the experience of a wobbly foundation only made me appreciate more the outstanding volunteer groomers with the Acadia Winter Trails Association, the team who traditionally grooms the roads for cross-country skiing.
We are all lucky to live in a winter wonderland. Happy spring!
