Ain’t broken

To the Editor:

A sanctuary city designation, as proposed in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert, is nothing to be afraid of.

It actually can make a community safer. Because police are not required to enforce federal immigration laws, residents feel safer contacting them or the fire department during emergencies and public safety situations.

Requiring police to act as immigration agents takes up their time, instills fear and fixes what ain’t broken.

Bar Harbor is known for welcoming all people.
