CruiseĀ shipĀ sizeĀ limit:Ā The size limit for a cruise ship landing would be set at 1,700 passengers.Ā
CruiseĀ shipĀ season:Ā April to midāJune,Ā one cruise ship per day would be allowed to anchor.Ā MidāJune to Labor Day weekend,Ā no cruise ship landings would be allowed.Ā This would give ourĆ¢ĀĀÆbusinessĆ¢ĀĀÆcommunity the ability to devote full attention to providing servicesĀ āĀ restaurants, seasonal rentals,Ā hotels, campgrounds, andĆ¢ĀĀÆgift shops,Ā etc.Ā āĀ for our visitors, allowing them to enjoy these firstāclass services without feeling overwhelmed by cruise ship passengers.Ā
LandingĀ changes:Ā First, the visiting cruise ship would drop anchor north of Bar Island.Ć¢ĀĀÆThen the ship would not impede the beautiful view of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay.Ć¢ĀĀÆĀ
Second, the passengers would disembark from their tenders at the new Bar Harbor Marina at 121 Eden Street.Ā TheĀ marina has already been approved forĆ¢ĀĀÆconstruction by the Bar Harbor voters.Ć¢ĀĀÆĀ
Third, passengers would be transported by tour bus to Mount Desert StreetĆ¢ĀĀÆacross from theĀ Village Green in theĆ¢ĀĀÆdowntown business district of BarĀ Harbor.Ć¢ĀĀÆPassengers could also ride the regular run Eden Street Island Explorer to and from the Village Green.Ć¢ĀĀÆĀ
Fourth, cruise ship tender dropāoff would be discontinued at the downtown pier area.Ć¢ĀĀÆThis would relieve the overcrowding that is now taking place.Ā This would also allow regular visitors, localsĀ and lobster fishermen and womenĆ¢ĀĀÆto haveĆ¢ĀĀÆeasier access to this area.Ā
Fifth, tour bus boarding for tours of Acadia National Park and Mount DesertĆ¢ĀĀÆIslandĆ¢ĀĀÆwould take place at 121 Eden Street.Ā Ā
InĀ conclusion, we, the residents of Bar Harbor, are a vibrant, close-knit community that has been challenged by the congestionĆ¢ĀĀÆcreated by cruise ship visitations.Ā We need to bring a balance to our visitor season.Ā Making theseĀ recommendedĆ¢ĀĀÆchanges would be beneficial to all those who live and work in our fabulous caring community, allowing us to better serve our friends,Ā familiesĀ and visitors.Ā
