Treasure Island, Fla., and Seal Harbor
William W. (Bill) Gorman Jr., 85, of Treasure Island, Fla., and Seal Harbor, was gathered by his Father on Aug. 17, 2022, following a brief illness and hospital stay in St. Petersburg, Fla.
William was born Sept. 1, 1936, in Bethlehem, Pa., to William W. Gorman Sr. and Yola M. Gorman. He moved from Bethlehem to Philadelphia in 1941 and to Ocean City, N.J., in 1948. He graduated from Ocean City High School in 1954.
William matriculated at Lehigh University in 1954 and graduated in 1959 with bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and engineering physics. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and served as vice president and president of the Lehigh chapter.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.
William was employed by Milton Roy Company as an engineer and in a variety of executive positions in Philadelphia, Pa., St. Petersburg, Fla., and Chicago, Ill. He was chief executive of E-C Apparatus Corp., first as a division of Milton Roy Company and then as an investor-owned company and finally as a division of Life Sciences PLC, a London-based holding company. He retired in 1991.
He was a registered Professional Engineer actively licensed in Florida, Illinois and Pennsylvania. He was an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists and served as national treasurer for 1991 and 1992. He was a member of the American Association of Clinical Chemists and The Natural Arch and Bridge Society.
He was briefly survived by his wife, best friend and business partner, Esther M. (Jordan) Gorman, who passed away Aug. 22, 2022.
He is survived by son Bruce W. Gorman, daughter-in-law Judi, step-grandson Jason Smith of Satellite Beach, Fla., brother Kenneth Gorman of Yankeetown, Fla., sister-in law Judy Harvel, nieces Melissa (Harvel) Millhaven and Johanna Harvel of Boston, Mass., and Seal Harbor, nephews James Jordan of Mount Desert and Ron Jordan of Portland.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Patricia Gorman Smith.
Private interment will be in Seal Harbor at a later date.
