William R. Carter, born May 26, 1941, in Southwest Harbor, peacefully passed away at his home in Ellsworth on March 12, 2022, after a long illness. Bill lived most of his adult life in Southwest Harbor and graduated from Pemetic High School. He was a gifted man who could create a beautiful car from a discarded piece of junk. Bill’s customized street rods were well known in the area.
Bill also loved the outdoors and his adventures around Salmon Pond and the Machias Lakes with friends and family will be fondly remembered.
Bill is survived by his wife, Diane, a nephew, John Chipman, a niece, Nicole Thomas, and an extended family of friends. There will be a celebration of his life this summer. For those who wish, donations may be made in his memory to Old Town Animal Orphanage through their website at [email protected] or to P.O. Box 565, Orono, ME 04473.
