William Gallagher

Southwest Harbor

It’s with my deepest condolences to announce the death of our beloved grandfather, William Gallagher, who died suddenly Feb. 22, 2021. He was born on June 7, 1935. His parents were William Farrington and Evelyn DeLisser Gallagher. Grandfather was a master sergeant in the Air Force and traveled around the world. Grandfather Bill was more heroic to me than most of our generations could ever hope to be. He was a very private man full of pride; they just don’t make men like they used to. He was with his family from Maine for his last few years of his life. We were all very happy and grateful for the precious time we finally were able to be together.

One of his favorite places in the world was Switzerland. Grandfather loved the finer things in life, but he also enjoyed everyday simple biscuits and gravy, which reminded him of being in the service. He told us Air Force stories and how much he loved to drive fast in cars. One of his favorite memories was when he ate pizza and had a pitcher of beer at the bowling alley with his wife, Sue, in Maryland. He cherished animals and loved parrots, like mine. His Maine coon cat, Moose, will miss him dearly. He never knew how my sister had time to bake so many cookies and do everything else. His favorite time of the day was when my mom came home from work. Family meant the world to him and as he watched the grandchildren play he was always smiling and saying that family was what life was all about.

He spent the last years of his life taking the great-grandchildren to the lake for a swim or picking them up after school. He was a very busy man and never took a holiday off work. His inspiration for building was always the light for my own imagination. He will be missed with many heartfelt memories in our thoughts forever, from his grandchildren: Daisy and her spouse Roy, Evelyn and her spouse Danny, great-grandchildren Brody, Cody, Kelly, Harper and Elias.

“If you rest, you rust.”
