William (Billy) Edward Lockhart

BAR HARBOR

William (Billy) Edward Lockhart, 62, passed away on April 16, 2020, at home in Bar Harbor surrounded by friends. Billy was born Oct. 24, 1957, in Bar Harbor, the son of William Langdon Lockhart and Ida C. (White) (Stanley) Lockhart.

Billy grew up in Southwest Harbor and attended many excellent school programs designed for special needs children. Starting as a young man, Billy was an altar boy at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Southwest Harbor. This was a service he provided proudly, efficiently and regularly. Billy worked for many years at the Mount Desert Island Workshop making wooden products and hoods for Jackson Laboratory mouse cages, among other things. He was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics. Billy, his mother and eight friends would annually attend the Shriners Circus at the Bangor Auditorium; a good time was always had by all.

Billy was a very special person in so many ways. He loved his friends, family and thoroughly enjoyed music. He so enjoyed one artist that he wore out a CD. His smile, laugh and loving personality will be missed by all.

He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Boynton L. Stanley, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his sister, Betty L. (Stanley) Wheaton, and husband, Ed; nephew, John E. Wheaton II, and wife, Deborah; many cousins and many close friends.

On behalf of Billy, the family would like to thank Dr. Baxter, the hospice team, his dear friends and the dedicated staff at Knox Road for the outstanding care he received for over 30 years.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a graveside service and celebration of life will be scheduled at a future date.

Arrangements by Acadia Burial & Cremation Direct, 248 State St., Ellsworth.
