ROCHESTER, N.Y. and BAR HARBOR — Senior Chief Petty Officer Wayne R. Linscott, USN, Retired, passed away on Jan. 27, 2016, at the VA Hospice in Batavia, N.Y., after a long illness. He is the son of the late Russell Linscott and Charlotte Levesque of Hulls Cove. He is survived by wife, Diane (Rochester, N.Y.); sons Tom (Gardiner), Chris (Virginia), and Andrew (Virginia); daughters Stephanie (Acton) and Leslie (Massachusetts); brothers Gary (Colorado) and Joel (Bar Harbor); along with two granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandparents Percy and Doris Candage and Hollis and Annie Linscott of Bar Harbor.
Senior Chief Linscott proudly served his country for 24 years in the U.S. Navy, taking on assignments that took him to many faraway places including Guam, Spain, Antarctica and Iceland. He also served on numerous aircraft carriers and was a veteran of Gulf Storm 1 in the Persian Gulf, receiving numerous decorations and commendations for his service.
His hobbies included building ship and aircraft models and his love for music. Wayne was always ready for a lively discussion when it came to the Boston Red Sox, the Navy and politics. Growing up in Bar Harbor, he graduated from MDI High School in 1969, where he was a member of the track team.
Burial at sea with full military honors will be performed aboard a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier later this year.
