Thomas Edward Frank



flagOBIT - Thomas FrankBAR HARBOR — Thomas Edward Frank of Bar Harbor passed away Nov. 27, 2014, after a 16-year struggle with leukemia. Mr. Frank was born May 29, 1940, in Evanston, Ill. He was the second eldest son in a family of four children born to Carl Edward Frank and Josephine Ann Waggett.

After serving briefly in the U.S. Army, Thomas Frank attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned a bachelor of fine arts degree. There he met and married Kathleen Bather, his devoted wife and constant companion of over 40 years. The couple then moved to Maine, where they raised a son and daughter.

Mr. Frank held various jobs, most of which utilized his considerable talents as a carpenter and craftsman. When not working for others, Mr. Frank spent his time working on houses he purchased and refurbished. He had an affinity for valuable yet severely neglected properties and worked tirelessly to transform them into beautiful and inviting homes for himself and his family. Through his toils he passed on his work ethic, his unwavering optimism, and many of his considerable talents to his children. His endeavors also left his family a modest inheritance and many happy memories of working at his side. Mr. Frank was universally regarded as a loving father, a devoted husband, a kind and generous brother, a talented craftsman and a truly virtuous man.

He is survived by his wife; a younger brother and sister, his son and daughter, and two granddaughters, all of whom he loved dearly and who loved him dearly in return.
