Terry Leonard Musson

Bernard

Terry Leonard Musson of Bernard, Maine passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021, surrounded by his wife and two sons. He was 73 years old.
Terry was born Nov. 19, 1947, in Richmond, Calif. He moved to Maine to live with his grandparents in 1961.
In his youth, Terry was known as a bit of a rascal. In fact, many good stories have been told of his “adventures,” including one in which he, as a 3-year-old, decided to crawl out of his bedroom window (he was supposed to be napping) and walk 10 city blocks by himself to his sister’s kindergarten class to make sure she was OK. More than many, this story illustrates Terry’s independent spirit, his sense of adventure, and his desire to protect those closest to him.
To Terry, family was everything. He was a dedicated son, father, and husband. As a friend he was quick to lend a helping hand, though he preferred to remain behind the scenes and shied away from accolades. When a friend or family member fell on hard times or was ill there was no better person to have at your side.
Here are some words used to describe Terry by those who knew him best: adventurous, good listener, honest, supportive, gruff, caring, brave, faithful, funny, hero, loyal, friend, loving husband, brother, father.
He cared for his community (a trait passed on to his two sons). He was a part time constable in Tremont, an EMT, and a volunteer firefighter. He was most proud of his work with the Mount Desert Island Hospital as a member of the Board of Trustees where he served from 1999 to 2015. During that time, he served as 1st vice chair (2005-2007) and chairman of the board (2007-2011).
Terry loved using his hands and mind and admired people who worked hard. He spent many years working in construction and even built the house he and his family lived in for more than 47 years. During his life he enjoyed sailing, water skiing, scuba diving, shelling, baseball, tying flies, purchasing old tools, good bourbon, making his top-secret spice seasoning mix, and many other things.
Terry will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Linda; his son Noel and his wife Mary; their three daughters Caroline, Meredith, and Natalie; his son Jeremy and his wife Margs; their two sons Nolan and Carter; his sister Linda Kopf and her husband Silas and their daughter Sasha; his brother John DaCorte and his wife Ellen, their children Lydia and Jack; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Muriel DaCorte.
Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Terry managed the health challenges he faced over the past several years with strength and optimism. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at his home in Bernard on Sunday, July 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Terry’s name be made to Mount Desert Island Hospital.

Know when to pay your respects.
