Steven Allen Carter, age 60, of Steuben, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 18, 2021.
Steven was born on Sept. 15, 1961, to Lawrence and Doris Carter of Bass Harbor. As the seventh born, he had a larger-than-life personality and was a gifted storyteller. Through his stories we learned just how wildly adventurous, compassionate, inventive and loving he truly was. Some of his adventures included serving in the United States Army as a tank driver, driving tractor-trailer trucks cross-country and becoming an ordained minister. He even went on to publish a cookbook.
Despite these ventures, it was his true passion for the outdoors that would drive him to focus his career on lobstering and boat building. When Steven wasn’t on a boat either working or fishing, he could be found beside his soulmate Kellie Reed-Carter. Steven and Kellie shared 27 years together, 21 of those as husband and wife. Even as a dedicated husband his devotion to his children remained strong.
Steven was a devoted father to Steve (Spiff) Carter Sr. and his Jersey Girl Jessica Bass, Alicia S. Pierson, Bekah Spurgeon, Nicholas Allen Reed-Carter and his significant other Diane Thi Vo. He was also a beloved Papsi to his grandchildren Liberty Carter, Steve Carter Jr., Molly, Montana, Allen Reed Carter and Mia Thi Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Doris Carter, and brothers Clyde Carter and Lawrence Carter Jr. He is survived by his sisters Pricilla Hunt of Florida, Carol and Robert Hamblen of Lamoine, Dorothy Closson of Southwest Harbor, Marrion Herrick of Limestone and Sheila and Jim Manning of Sullivan as well as numerous nieces and nephews, countless cousins and friends. Per Steven’s request, there will be no public services.
