Sharon Lee Colson

BAR HARBOR — Sharon Lee Colson was born Sharon Lee Baldwin, May 17, 1946, to Paul Niles Baldwin and Charlotte Merle Parsons.

She passed away Thursday April 27, at 6:30 p.m. with her family around her at home, after a short battle with lung cancer.  She was 70 years old.

Sharon was known to her family and friends as a hard worker and “spitfire.” She always said what was on her mind whether you wanted to hear it or not.

Sharon worked for many years at waitressing, short order cooking and chambermaiding before going to work at the Jackson Laboratory in 1998. After retiring she spent her free time “working.” She was not happy to be idle. Sharon was always traveling at warp speed. “Get out of my way!” was one of her favorite sayings.

She also enjoyed her community and working at the polls in Bar Harbor, where she met many new friends.

Sharon was predeceased by both parents, and her grandson, Blaine Thomas Alley, in 2005.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Ralph, three children, Holly Hopkins and her husband, Scott, Robert Colson and his wife, Anita, Ralph Colson, III and his love, Donna Hatch; eight grandchildren, Bryce, Mary, Robert, Paige, Kai, Ralph IV, Taegen and Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Mason Jon and Misla Jane Harkins and Kieran Mae Fallica; three brothers, Tom, Steven and Gary; three sisters, Karen, Suzanne and Charlene; sister-in-law, Madeline Richardson and her husband, Fred;  many nieces and nephews and a list of cousins too long to count.

Services will be private. It was Sharon’s wish to have donations in her memory to the Blaine Alley Scholarship Fund for Boggy Brook Technical School. Please send all donations to MDIHS Guidance Dept., P.O. Box 180, Mount Desert, ME 04660, Attn. Mary Wallace.
