Sean Sweeney passed away after an unexpected illness. He leaves a legacy of a man who cherished his wife, adored his son and loved his family. Sean was a funny guy, a big personality, and a kind-hearted man who would do anything for a friend. While most remember him as the guy on the ball field flipping pancakes for Rotary, or passing out candy on Halloween, Sean was also an accomplished gem-cutter. His work can be seen on exhibit in the Smithsonian National Museum, the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum and the Alfie Norville Museum, to name a few. Sean was a two-time award winner for his gem cutting from the American Gem Trade Association.
Sean, when not cutting gemstones, was always busy building SOMETHING, or hiking. Sean hiked every mountain and trail on MDI, along with hiking all the 4,000-footers in New Hampshire. Sean is survived by his wife, Lily, his son Evan, along with his brothers Mike and Ron Sweeney and their extended families. A private family funeral will be held in honor of Sean. In lieu of flowers or donations, Sean would want you to hug your family, tell a good joke and take a walk to enjoy the great outdoors.
